JulieWillYouMarry.me
I created a website (JulieWillYouMarry.me) to propose to my girlfriend Julie in July 2011 and after it making it to the front page of reddit… it became somewhat of an internet sensation. This slide show discusses some of the reasons it might have spread so far.

Robot Speed Dating
I am freshly back from ARGfest 2009 (in Portland, OR), where I met a bunch of great people and learned so much fascinating stuff. Undoubtedly, ARGfest was a positive experience for both Tanner and myself. We were invited to speak on an Indie Game panel, which I will try post about later, but also to run a live event. While we had never run a live event of this magnitude before, I was super...

I have been dancing…
However, I have been doing it Top Secretly by wearing a disguise. Jane McGonigal has been my generous tutor as I explore the community and behind the scenes workings of the Top Secret Dance Off game. Since I am interning with her for the entire summer, I am sure that this topic will come up again, but I wanted to touch on a few things that I have learned so far from the world of TSDO. TSDO has a...

Charging for Experiences: When Audiences Stop...
It is apparent that the traditional business model of the recording industry hasn’t been working. They have seen dramatically declining profits for the past 10 years. Topping the record companies’ claims for the reason of this decline a lack of copyright enforcement in digital spaces. With current technology it has become far easier to download, in most cases illegally, than it is to go out a...

Maintaining Fantasy Worlds
Daniel Mackay, in “The Fantasy Role-Playing Game”, argues that continuity is vital to the “imaginary-entertainment environments” in which an immersive game takes place. When a game takes place in an existing realm of context it is important that the GM (GameMaster) keeps the gameplay within that context in order to maintain the illusion for the game players. This can become...

Have you had this dream? More North than Iceland, because of its geothermal power. Yes, we know. Truth is, what you eat is where the calories go. But you don’t have to take words for it. Where were We’re lying in bed, mucus at backs of throats… tomorrow the dream. Sighing, Still… Perhaps„, Thankfully, Greenland… but the lavatory is locked and the occupancy landed.

Sunshine (a cut-up story)
Across the yard, battling the sounds of playing children Rebecca lay sun bathing, in a bathing suit. Sundays were like this, controlling her contempt for her, relatively distanced, distantly related family members, and trying her best to acquire skin cancer. //// 15 minutes, flip \\ Mondays were also like this, as were Tuesdays and Wednesdays; In fact, the whole week was. For it is...

Media Bites
Quividi.com … Company uses face recognition technology to monitor the amount views of a public add. It records age, gender, and length of time that a person looks at the ad. DTV Transition
On February 4th Congress voted to postpone the forced switch from analog to digital broadcast signals. It has been postponed to June 12th of this year. This was done in order to give the millions of people that rely exclusively on broadcast television more time to prepare for the digital switch. Of the 15 million people (television households) in the US that watch broadcast television an...

Quoting and Remixing
This is a blog post by Lev Manovich. He does a good job of defining what remix culture is, and how it has become massively pervasive. It is interesting to see how the idea of taking a piece of a time-based medium and breaking up its linear nature really became popular with music, specifically electronic music from the 1980’s. However, I disagree with Manovich’s notion that “remix” is not...

Alphabetic Virus
A little story I wrote which uses a different letter in alphabetic order for the beginning of each sentence.
“Attention, Attention, Attention!” “Because of the recent leak of the Alphabetic Virus, all non-emergency personally will be quarantined until further notice” Curtis stared up at the flickering monitor and contemplates what to do now. “Don’t leave your apartment,” The official transponder...

Dance enough to drunk?
In a recent discussion with Jessica, and I came up with this idea for an art project. It is a blood alcohol sensor that comments on the sociological reasons that people drink alcohol. Because of their ease and inexpense, alcohol sensors have been placed on everything from cars to mobile-phones. So far these Breathalyzer uses have only been in an attempt to prevent the alcohol consumer from...

Totaling the Check
The end of the semester is approaching and I only have a few more things to do. A couple more big projects, including my “plan” for the rest of my time here at the New School and a final DVD for my production class. 1. Bob Kerry, the former senator and current president of the New School, is running into some drama with the teachers. I am not sure how it will play out, but I guess I can’t...

Robots!
Yesterday we finished up the Robot commercial shoot. It went smoothly. All the actors did a great job and the school’s equipment worked fine. Next comes the tricky part where I have to show up my skills and do some post-production work. Since we shot it on a blue screen, I have to matte in a negative white space to get that look of the eHarmony commercials. Take a look at this video:

Updates
1. So Tanner and I have been working on the ARG. Slowly, but surely, things are starting to shape up on this thing. It looks like we will be shooting a couple weekends from now and we are getting the first of the robot costumes together. I found this image of a robot costume from 1981 and it has been the inspiration of all costume so far:
2. I am currently looking for the gaps in ARG...

Mare Vitreum
This past Halloween night, I was member of a group of elite investigators that brought down an evil cult mastermind and his super genetic computer. Yep, a first for me, but just another night for Prototype 161. The event had an online pre-game that Prototype assured us was not necessary for the game and which I enjoyed. The pre-game even had clue drops in five cities across the country.

This is a neat site that provides open source code for a social networking sites. This means we can make a social networking site for anything and everything…
Today I came up with an idea for a possible comedy ARG. It is about a robot who has a human roommate and the roommate wants to help the robot find a robo-girlfriend. I could create fake websites and the roommate could try to set him up on dates. The goal of the ARG would be to help find the robot the robot love of his live.
Ahhh, to be young and digitally in love.
I would need to come up with...

Subway Graffiti
So over the past few days I have been heavily thinking about the Graffiti in the subway system. Usally, the vandels write vulgar and often offensive remarks on the pictures. They comment on the nature of the poses by the models and draw sexual imaginary on the models faces and other parts of their bodies. I am pretty certain that the intent of the vandels is just to get a rise out of the other...

Trouthammer: work in progress
I am trying to update trouthammer, because I need more functionallity for school. However, it seems everytime I start to understand a little about web design I go and screw something else up.
So far, I have added this tumblr blog, a calendar, and my twitter to my homepage. Hopefully, I can figure out how to add a couple other features without messing everything up.
